The 6 1/2-month son of Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom has died, team
spokesman John Black said Thursday.
Jayden Odom, who was born Dec. 15, died Wednesday as he apparently suffocated
while sleeping in his crib in New York, according to Black.
"Lamar is very distraught," said Black. "Both he and the baby's mother are
asking that people respect their privacy at this time."
Lamar Odom has another son and daughter.
Odom, 26, was acquired by the Lakers two years ago in the trade that sent
centre Shaquille O'Neal to the Miami Heat.
Odom averaged 14.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 80 games for the
Lakers in the regular season and 19.1 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists
in the team's first-round playoff loss to the Phoenix Suns.
