Mitchell for assignment to make room on the roster for Raul Ibanez, the club announced Wednesday. Mitchell, 25, came over to the Mariners from the Yankees in last July's trade sending Ichiro Suzuki to New York. Mitchell made his major league debut with the Yankees in May, appearing in just four games (4 2/3 innings) with a 3.86 ERA. The righty spent the bulk of 2012 in Triple-A, where he notched a 4.29 ERA between both organizations. Mitchell managed a 2.96 ERA with Seattle's Triple-A Tacoma affiliate, but his peripheral statistics were underwhelming -- just 6.1 strikeouts paired with 3.5 walks per nine innings.
