First of all,
if it's a good violin, the soundpost won't deteriorate. One of my violin stayed
around 10 years on a wall before I bought it from a gipsy lady.

The violin surely won't deteriorate if you just open the case. (evidence-based)
but
Depending on how it was handled, how the string were attached before leaving it,
the “soundpost and the bridge” of the violin might be checked by a luthier.
Overall, if it's not a good violin at least, (who knows, maybe it's a good violi
n, but only the luthier/instrument craft expert who's not only a musician can sa
y) it might not be a good option to invest in it too much.
The best solution for you if you really want to know what is with that violin, i
s to go to a repair shop or a luthier.
They can tell you if it needs repair or if it just needs a bit of maintenance.
(It depends a lot on how it stayed in these years~ if you want to play, after
those years, a bit of maintenance is good as well)
