Cubs interested in Castellanos
小熊對Castellanos有興趣
July 21: Tigers outfielder Nicholas Castellanos has been mentioned as a trade
candidate dating back to last season, but he remains in Detroit with the
Trade Deadline less than two weeks away. At this point, the soon-to-be free
agent isn't convinced he'll actually be moved.
"I wouldn't be shocked if I don't get traded," Castellanos said Thursday
afternoon. "Because everybody thought I was going to get traded at the last
Deadline. Everybody thought I was going to get traded this [past] offseason.
There were some people saying that I was gonna go in Spring Training."
本人表示:去年中就一堆人覺得我要走了,這次我沒走我也不意外
There does appear to be at least some interest in Castellanos, though. Chris
McCosky of the Detroit News reported Sunday that the Cubs are eyeing the
outfielder, presumably to help against left-handed pitching.
Castellanos, who owns a lifetime .871 OPS vs. southpaws (1.090 OPS vs. LHP in
2019), would help Chicago compensate for the absences of Jason Heyward and
Kyle Schwarber. The two corner outfielders typically sit with a left-hander
on the mound.

Would Bumgarner use no-trade clause to reject deal?
July 21: The Giants have gotten back into the postseason picture with a
surprising surge, going 14-3 in their past 17 games to lower their deficit to
2 1/2 games in the race for the second National League Wild Card spot.
San Francisco's recent success has coincided with an excellent stretch from
left-hander Madison Bumgarner, who has recorded a 1.55 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP
and 34 strikeouts in 29 innings over his past five starts. The 29-year-old
had his longest outing of the season Thursday, tossing nine innings of
one-run ball against the Mets.
At one point, it looked like a foregone conclusion that the soon-to-be free
agent would be moved before the Trade Deadline. But according to MLB Network
insider Jon Heyman, there's now a question of whether a deal will happen.
An executive with interest in Bumgarner told Heyman that he already sensed
the Giants had "pulled back" in trade talks before Thursday's stellar
performance. Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi seemed to
confirm this on Sunday, saying "it's impossible to say" whether Bumgarner
will be dealt.
Bumgarner's limited no-trade clause is also a potential factor. One source
told Buster Olney that he wouldn't be shocked if Bumgarner turned down a
trade "just to continue to be part of something he loves for the rest of his
deal," as Olney reported in an article for ESPN+ (subscription required) on
Sunday.
Of course, the left-hander can only block a move to eight teams -- reportedly
the Braves, Red Sox, Cubs, Astros, Brewers, Yankees, Phillies and Cardinals.
There's also an incentive for him to be traded, as it would make him
ineligible to receive a qualifying offer. The Draft-pick compensation tied to
those who reject a qualifying offer has seemingly limited the market for some
players in recent years, including left-hander Dallas Keuchel this past
offseason

Pirates GM: No plans to trade Vazquez
July 21: Felipe Vazquez has been of the most popular names on the reliever
trade market, but the Pirates are doing their part to quash any ideas about
his departure. Speaking with reporters Sunday before the Pirates' series
finale against the Phillies, GM Neal Huntington stated that he will listen to
many offers leading up to the July 31 Trade Deadline, but it would take a
simply incredible deal to pry Vazquez away from Pittsburgh.
“My job is to listen when someone makes the call, but we’re not the one
placing the calls to see what’s out there," Huntington said. "If somebody
wants to explore anybody on our club, we have to. Back in the day, we had to
explore on anybody and it’s no different. It’s our job. The rumor mill
takes it where it takes it. But we always have to entertain ways to make this
organization -- and ideally this current club -- better.
"Sometimes you make the future clubs better, but we fully anticipate Felipe
will be closing the next playoff games that we’re a part of

Red Sox targeting closers
July 21: Even with the return of Nathan Eovaldi this weekend, the Red Sox are
still looking to solidify their bullpen for the stretch run. MLB.com's Jon
Morosi reports that Boston has shown active interest in closers Kirby Yates
and Ken Giles, either of whom would fill the ninth-inning void left by Craig
Kimbrel's free-agent departure last offseason.
紅襪在找CP,對Yates和Giles有興趣
The Red Sox have had mixed results with their closer-by-committee approach
this year, which has resulted in six different relievers recording saves.
Yates currently leads the Majors with 31 saves, while Giles has notched 14
saves. Both have posted a sub-2.00 ERA with high strikeout rates as well,
making them attractive late-inning options for clubs seeking bullpen help.

Asking price for Merrifield remains high
July 21: Whit Merrifield's speed, versatility, hitting talent and
team-friendly contract all make him an extremely desirable trade asset -- but
teams might be moving on to other options right now. Morosi reports that the
Royals' asking price for Merrifield remains high, spurring teams to inquire
about other potential super-utility players on the market, including the Blue
Jays' Eric Sogard and the Rangers' Danny Santana.
皇家對Merrifield的開價頗高,買家可能要將目標轉向藍鳥Sogard或條子Santana
Merrifield, 30, entered Sunday with an excellent .313/.364/.508 batting line
and is coming off his first All-Star Game selection. Kansas City showed its
commitment to the super-utility star by signing him to a four-year extension
worth $16.25 million in January.
Hudson drawing interest
July 21: Morosi reports that the Red Sox are one of several teams scouting
and evaluating Blue Jays reliever Daniel Hudson -- who's been on a very hot
run over the last two months.

Tigers asking for established young MLB star for Boyd
July 20: The Tigers continue to set a lofty asking price for left-hander
Matthew Boyd, and it seems they aren't only requesting top prospects.
According to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, Detroit has been asking some
teams for an established young MLB star in exchange for the 28-year-old, who
has three years of club control remaining after this one.
That could make a Boyd trade even more unlikely, for multiple reasons.
The first is that contenders interested in adding Boyd likely aren't going to
want to deal key MLB contributors. There's also the fact that the southpaw
has recorded a 6.08 ERA with a 2.7 HR/9 mark over his past eight starts,
bumping his season numbers to 4.13 and 1.6, respectively. Although Boyd owns
the fourth-best K-BB% (27.4) among qualified pitchers, his recent struggles
are difficult for potential suitors to ignore.
老虎對Boyd的開價也很高,買家不太可能出MLB等級的球員,而且他最近有點炸
Blue Jays seeking Archer-like package for Stroman
July 20: There appears to be plenty of teams with interest in Blue Jays
right-hander Marcus Stroman, as MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi reported Friday
that eight teams -- the Yankees, Braves, Cubs, Dodgers, Padres, Rays, Reds
and Red Sox -- had scouts in attendance for Stroman's gem against the Tigers.
The large number of potential suitors combined with the extra year of control
the Blue Jays have over Stroman gives the club the leverage to place a lofty
price tag on him. How lofty? According to David O'Brien of The Athletic,
Toronto has been seeking a Chris Archer-like package for the 28-year-old.
藍鳥尋求當初Archer等級的包裹來賣Stroman,基勇熊躲教芒襪紅上次都有派球探
When the Rays traded Archer to the Pirates on July 31 last season, the deal
landed Tampa Bay two former top 100 prospects (Tyler Glasnow and Austin
Meadows) as well as a player to be named later who turned out to be Shane
Baz, currently ranked 91st overall. The trade now looks like a colossal
overpay for Pittsburgh, with Archer struggling mightily as Glasnow and
Meadows have become cornerstone pieces for Tampa Bay, and it seems far
fetched that any team would be willing to match that package in exchange for
Stroman.
At the time, Archer came with a possible three remaining years of team
control after 2018 -- a guaranteed $7.7 million salary in '19, plus a $9
million club option ($1.75 million buyout) in '20 and an $11 million club
option ($250,000 buyout) in '21. He also had a lifetime 3.69 ERA with a 9.7
K/9 mark. Compare that to Stroman's career 3.78 ERA and 7.2 K/9, with only
one year of control left after 2019.

Braves, Yankees had scouts on hand for Minor's start Friday
July 20: MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi reported Wednesday that the chances of a
Mike Minor trade were on the rise, and the Rangers have dropped two more
games since then, pushing their losing streak to five.
According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Braves and Yankees
had scouts in attendance for Minor's start against the Astros on Friday.
Minor struck out 10 batters with one walk over seven innings in Houston, but
also allowed four solo homers in a 4-3 loss. In Grant's opinion, Minor's
outing likely didn't impact his trade value all that much, one way or another.
洋基勇士有派球探去看Minor上次的先發
The 31-year-old left-hander has pitched like an ace this season, posting a
2.86 ERA with 131 strikeouts in 129 innings. He's also signed for just $9.83
million next year.
Rays reportedly willing to deal for rental player
July 20: As they make their postseason push, the Rays are willing to trade
for a rental player, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin, who
quotes general manager Erik Neander as saying, "Probably the most visible
thing that stands out is through the guys we have or potentially through
upgrades, we have to find a way to either separate tight games offensively or
lock them down on the pitching half of innings, certainly late. It’s one of
those two things.”
光芒想交易來打工仔
The Rays opened the season on a tear, owning the best record in baseball into
May and leading the stacked American League East as late as mid-June. They've
fallen back since, and at 56-45, look to solidify their position heading into
the stretch run.
Nationals interested in Greene, Dyson
July 20: At one point, the Nationals looked like they were headed for a Trade
Deadline sale, but the club has turned around its season with a 32-14
stretch. Even after losing to the Braves on Friday night, Washington entered
Saturday with a hold on the first National League Wild Card spot.
With less than two weeks to go before the Deadline, the Nats are now in the
buyers category, and sources told MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal that the
club is interested in the Tigers' Shane Greene and the Giants' Sam Dyson, two
hurlers with one year of arbitration eligibility remaining.
國民對Greene,Sam Dyson有興趣
Washington's relief corps has performed better of late, but the team still
has the second-highest bullpen ERA (5.97) in the Majors, so it makes sense
that it would target late-inning arms.

Trade inquiries for Ramos have been 'scarce'
July 20: Since the Mike Piazza era ended in New York following the 2005
season, the Mets have consistently had trouble finding a productive starting
catcher. The club was hoping to change that when it signed two-time All-Star
Wilson Ramos to a two-year, $19 million deal with a $10 million team option
for 2021, but the veteran has taken a step back at the plate (.267/.345/.396,
nine HR, 43 RBIs) and on defense.
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Mets officials were hoping that
a trade market would materialize for Ramos, but industry sources say that
inquiries have been "scarce" to this point, and one Major League talent
evaluator doesn't think that will change.
沒啥人對Wilson Ramos有興趣
"There is not a big market right now for catching and his contract is going
to impede that even more," the talent evaluator told Puma.
