Phils agree to deal with Smyly, showing interest in Stroman
July 19: In need of rotation help, the Phillies have taken a flier on Drew
Smyly, agreeing to a contract with the veteran left-hander, a source told
MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. The club has not confirmed the deal.
Smyly posted an 8.42 ERA over 51 1/3 innings with the Rangers this season
after missing all of 2017 and '18 while recovering from Tommy John surgery,
so this move doesn't necessarily solve Philadelphia's pitching problems.
費城人簽了Smyly
However, there's enough time left before the Trade Deadline for Smyly to make
multiple starts, giving the Phillies a chance to see if he is indeed the
answer. In the meantime, Philadelphia will likely continue to eye potential
additions.
According to MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi, the Phillies have shown interest in
Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman (controllable through 2020), who is
scheduled to start Friday against the Tigers in Detroit. Per Morosi,
Stroman's start is expected to be attended by a large gathering of scouts.
費城人對Stroman有興趣,Stroman週五要對老虎先發,應該會有不少球探
Meanwhile, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports that the club has
spoken to the Rangers about Mike Minor (signed for $9.83 million in 2020),
the Tigers about Matthew Boyd (controllable through 2022) and the Giants
about free-agent-to-be Madison Bumgarner. The possibility of dealing for the
D-backs' Zack Greinke also has been kicked around. Given his contract,
Greinke likely would cost the Phillies less than the others in terms of
prospects.
費城人也在問Minor,Boyd,Bumgarner,還有考慮Greinke(貴所以出的新秀可能少點)
Greinke is in the midst of a six-year, $206.5 million deal that goes through
the 2021 season. However, there is $62.5 million in deferred money that will
be paid in annual installments of $12.5 million from 2022 through 2026. So
even though his “salary” for this season is $31.5 million, roughly a third
of that is deferred, and he’s actually taking home $21 million for 2019.
Therefore, Greinke is owed the prorated portion of his $21 million salary for
2019, as well as what’s left of the final two years of the deal, which comes
out to $112.5 million (including deferred payments) when you also include two
$3 million bonus payments he is still owed, as well as a $2 million trade
bonus.
Twins' trade targets could include Boyd, Greene, Bumgarner, Thor, more
雙城的目標可能包含Boyd,Greene,Bumgarner,巨人牛棚,Syndergaard
July 19: The Twins are looking to add both a starter and a reliever before
the Trade Deadline on July 31, and they appear to be casting a wide net in
that search.
Sources told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi that Minnesota has inquired about the
Tigers' Matthew Boyd and Shane Greene. Morosi also reports that the club had
a top talent evaluator in San Francisco for Thursday's matchup between the
Giants' Madison Bumgarner and the Mets' Noah Syndergaard. The Twins have
interest in San Francisco's bullpen arms as well, per Morosi
The Minneapolis Star Tribune's LaVelle E. Neal III reported earlier this
month that the Twins' top three prospects -- shortstop Royce Lewis,
outfielder Alex Kirilloff and right-hander Brusdar Graterol -- were off
limits in trades.
不過似乎不打算動隊內的前三新秀
The team would likely need to alter that stance to land Boyd (controllable
through 2022) or Syndergaard (controllable through '23). Bumgarner should
cost less, as he is set to hit free agency after this season. However,
there's now some speculation that the surging Giants could keep Bumgarner and
try to make the playoffs.

Red Sox reportedly monitoring Abreu's market
紅襪在觀察 Jose Abreu
July 19: As an impending free agent on a 42-51 White Sox club, Jose Abreu is
a logical trade candidate, but Chicago's front office might value Abreu's
clubhouse presence even more than his on-field contributions, making it
uncertain if he will be shopped before this year's Trade Deadline.
白襪可能更在意Abreu的clubhouse presence,不確定會不會開賣
Still, a few teams, including the Red Sox, are continuing to monitor the
market for the 32-year-old first baseman, according to Forbes reporter Phil
Rogers.
The Red Sox have been eyeing Abreu for years. In fact, they came just shy of
outbidding the White Sox for Abreu when he first came to MLB from Cuba.
Boston entered this season with a tandem of Mitch Moreland and Steve Pearce
at first base, but both players are currently on the injured list, and Red
Sox first basemen have collectively recorded a 90 wRC+ this season, which
ranks 24th in the Majors. Rookie Michael Chavis has been handling first-base
duties lately, but the team's lineup would be much stronger with Abreu at
first and Chavis at second.

Padres eyeing Bauer; who else is in mix?
教士對Bauer有興趣
July 19: A source told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi that the Padres have emerged
as the most serious suitors for Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer. San Diego
is interested in acquiring Bauer as the veteran anchor to its rotation --
he's under control through 2020 -- and could move one of three young position
players to Cleveland: Franmil Reyes, Hunter Renfroe or Luis Urias.
可能會把Franmil Reyes,Hunter Renfroe, Luis Urias其中之一當作代價
In addition, four teams besides the Padres had scouts in attendance for
Bauer's start against the Tigers on Thursday, though they may also have been
evaluating Detroit left-hander Matthew Boyd (controllable through 2022),
another trade candidate.
Have Giants 'pulled back' in Bumgarner trade talks?
July 19: The Giants have gotten back into the postseason picture with a
surprising surge, going 13-2 in their past 15 games to lower their deficit to
2 1/2 games in the race for the second National League Wild Card spot.
San Francisco's recent success has coincided with an excellent stretch from
left-hander Madison Bumgarner, who has recorded a 1.55 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP
and 34 strikeouts in 29 innings over his past five starts. The 29-year-old
had his longest outing of the season Thursday, tossing nine innings of
one-run ball against the Mets. The Giants edged the Mets in 16 innings,
moving its winning streak to six games.
At one point, it looked like a foregone conclusion that the soon-to-be free
agent would be moved before the Trade Deadline. But according to MLB Network
insider Jon Heyman, there's now a question of whether a deal will happen.
An executive with interest in Bumgarner told Heyman that he already sensed
the Giants had "pulled back" in trade talks before Thursday's stellar
performance.

Cardinals could move Martinez for right return
紅雀可能會賣Carlos Martinez,不過他能投輪值會比較有價
July 19: As the Cardinals continue to teeter on the buy/sell borderline,
MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi reports that the club could move right-hander
Carlos Martinez for the right package, per a source.
Martinez has performed well out of the bullpen this season and is currently
serving as St. Louis' closer after Jordan Hicks underwent Tommy John surgery.
But as Morosi notes, Martinez's contract -- $11.5 million each year from
2019-21, $17 million club option ($500,000 buyout) for '22, $18 million club
option ($500,000 buyout) for '23 -- was much more valuable when he was
pitching in the rotation.
The Cardinals moved the 27-year-old to the 'pen this year partly out of
necessity and partly because he has battled recurring shoulder problems. It's
possible a team could make a high-risk, high-reward move by acquiring
Martinez with the intention of shifting him back to a starting role.
Dodgers interested in Greene
July 19: The Dodgers have one major need as the Trade Deadline approaches,
and it's in the bullpen. Los Angeles is looking to add a reliever, and
sources told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi that the club is interested in Tigers
closer Shane Greene.
道奇對Greene有興趣
However, Greene's similarity to Joe Kelly -- one scout observed that Greene
and Kelly throw their fastballs at a similar eye level -- could push the
Dodgers toward targeting a left-handed reliever such as the Giants' Will
Smith or the Pirates' Felipe Vazquez instead.
Do Astros have enough to make competitive offer for starting pitcher?
太空人不知道能否出有競爭力的包裹來換取先發投手
July 19: The Astros are looking for a starting pitcher on the trade market,
but they may have difficulty assembling the best offer in a competitive
negotiation, writes MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi.
Although right-hander Forrest Whitley is still ranked as the No. 9 overall
prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, his stock is down. The youngster is
working his way back from shoulder fatigue and has issued 18 walks and
allowed nine home runs in 26 Minor League innings this season. Meanwhile,
another prospect of interest, righty Corbin Martin (Houston's No. 4 prospect)
recently underwent Tommy John surgery.
Mets scout Brewers on Thursday
梅子有去看釀酒人的比賽,有傳聞釀酒人對Wheeler和Syndergaard有興趣
July 19: The Mets continue to explore trade possibilities with the Deadline
less than two weeks away. Major League sources told SNY's Andy Martino that
Ruben Amaro Jr., the special assistant to Mets general manager Brodie Van
Wagenen, was dispatched to Phoenix on Thursday to scout the Brewers, who are
reportedly interested in both Zack Wheeler and Noah Syndergaard.
What's unclear is which players on Milwaukee's MLB roster Amaro was there to
see, besides top prospect Keston Hiura. New York would presumably ask for
Hiura in any trade involving Syndergaard, but the Brewers will likely be
reluctant to move the second baseman, who has hit .320/.383/.594 with nine
homers and five steals in his first 34 big league games.
不確定在看誰,釀酒人應該不願意出Hiura
Wheeler, meanwhile, likely won't command more than a mid-level prospect, as
he is currently on the injured list due to shoulder fatigue and can become a
free agent at the end of this season.
Wheeler應該換不到mid-level以上的新秀
Red Sox targeting Giants' relievers?
紅襪對巨人RP有興趣,昨天的16局大戰巨人秀了一票RP
July 19: While the Red Sox are hoping the return of Nathan Eovaldi from the
injured list will help solve some of their bullpen problems, the club may be
searching for additional help.
According to MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi, Boston had a high-level scout in
attendance for Thursday's Mets-Giants matchup in San Francisco. While that
game featured a pair of trade candidates in Madison Bumgarner and Noah
Syndergaard starting on the mound, it's more likely the Red Sox were
evaluating the Giants' myriad of veteran relief options.
The game lasted 16 innings, giving Will Smith, Reyes Moronta and Tony Watson
a chance to see action after Bumgarner tossed nine frames of one-run ball.
Sam Dyson and Mark Melancon could also draw interest. Of the five, only Smith
is not under control beyond this season. Moronta is controllable through
2023, Watson has a $2.5 million club option for '20, Dyson has one year of
arbitration eligibility remaining, and Melancon is signed for $14 million in
'20.
Givens, Villar, Mancini among Orioles' trade candidates
Givens,Villar,Mancini都可能被金鶯賣掉
July 19: The rebuilding Orioles did much of their heavy lifting last July,
trading Manny Machado, Zack Britton, Jonathan Schoop, Kevin Gausman, Darren
O'Day and Brad Brach, and they dealt Andrew Cashner to the Red Sox earlier
this month. However, the club still has some intriguing candidates to be
traded before this year's Deadline, as Dan Connolly pointed out Friday in an
article for The Athletic (subscription required).
Connolly lists reliever Mychal Givens (controllable through 2021) as the most
likely Oriole to be moved, followed by infielder Jonathan Villar
(controllable through 2020) and first baseman/corner outfielder Trey Mancini
(controllable through 2022).
One scout recently told Connolly that Givens "is on everybody's list," and
another talent evaluator said he'd love to see what Givens can do outside of
Camden Yards. Givens owns a 5.32 ERA with a 2.5 HR/9 mark at home this
season, compared to a 2.93 ERA and a 1.2 HR/9 on the road.
Givens主場很炸,但客場投得相當好
Connolly, though, doesn't think there's that much of a market for Villar at
this point.
Villar可能沒啥市場
"Villar’s chances of being moved are probably affected more than any other
Oriole by the rule this year that eliminates August deals," Connolly writes.
"In past years, he'd be a perfect candidate to get through trade waivers and
to have on stand-by if a contender suffers a key middle-infield injury. As it
stands, I'd say it is 50-50 that he gets dealt."
As for Mancini, Connolly would be surprised if he's moved, simply because of
the asking price.
"At the price it'll cost, you'd have to really be in love with that bat to
make up for that lack of outfield range," one talent evaluator said.
Mancini報價偏低,大概不會動
Castellanos not convinced he'll be traded
老虎外野手Castellanos不覺得自己會被交易
July 19: Tigers outfielder Nicholas Castellanos has been mentioned as a trade
candidate dating back to last season, but he remains in Detroit with the
Trade Deadline less than two weeks away. At this point, the soon-to-be free
agent isn't convinced he'll actually be moved.
"I wouldn't be shocked if I don't get traded," Castellanos said Thursday
afternoon. "Because everybody thought I was going to get traded at the last
Deadline. Everybody thought I was going to get traded this [past] offseason.
There were some people saying that I was gonna go in Spring Training."
Castellanos has turned his season around after a slow start, but there
doesn't appear to be much interest in him, even with the Tigers not seeking a
big return, according to MLB.com's Jason Beck.
Santana, Elias drawing trade interest; 'minimal' interest in Leake
許多人對水手的Santana,Elias有興趣,Leake就比較低
July 19: Although the rebuilding Mariners have overturned their roster
significantly since the end of last season, they still have a number of
players who could be moved.
Writing for The Athletic (subscription required) on Wednesday, MLB Network
insider Ken Rosenthal reports that outfielder Domingo Santana and left-hander
Roenis Elias are the two Seattle players currently drawing the most trade
interest.
"The Mariners are not necessarily eager to move Santana," Rosenthal writes.
"Still, the interest in Santana is strong enough that the team will at least
consider trading him."
Elias, who like Santana has two years of club control remaining after this
one, has had some success filling in for Hunter Strickland as the Mariners'
closer. Interestingly, the southpaw has neutralized right-handed hitters
(.181/.244/.336) while allowing left-handed batters to hit .326/.415/.543.
Meanwhile, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports that there has been
"minimal interest" in right-hander Mike Leake since a trade with the D-backs
fell through in June. The Mariners likely would need to cover a significant
portion of Leake's salary to move him. The Cardinals are paying part of
Leake's deal ($5 million in 2019 and $4 million in '20), but he's still
making $11 million from Seattle this season and is owed another $11 million
from the club next year. Moreover, his $18 million mutual option in '21 comes
with a $5 million buyout.
Mets' asking for 'a few arms and a leg' for Syndergaard
梅子對Syndergaard的開價很高
July 18: Although the Mets are listening to offers for right-hander Noah
Syndergaard, their asking price is steep -- perhaps prohibitively so. One
general manager told ESPN's Jeff Passan that the cost to land Syndergaard is
"a few arms and a leg," and another GM in the market for a starting pitcher
said he believes the right-hander will not be traded before the Trade
Deadline on July 31.
Syndergaard -- who allowed one run in seven innings Thursday night in San
Francisco against fellow trade candidate Madison Bumgarner -- is 26 years
old, and he has two years of club control remaining after this one. He also
has some of the best raw stuff in baseball. So it's not surprising that the
Mets are driving a hard bargain.
As Passan notes, the Padres have been eyeing Syndergaard for some time, and
their elite farm system gives them as good a chance as any other team of
acquiring the righty. But San Diego doesn't match up all that well with New
York, as the club is looking to deal from its surplus of corner outfielders
-- one of the positions the Mets have covered.
教士的農場很強,可是想出的角落外野梅子好像不缺
The Astros and Yankees are two other clubs that have been mentioned as
potential suitors for Syndergaard. The Brewers also are interested, but
Passan reports that they aren't willing to deal top prospect Keston Hiura.
洋基太空人也對雷神有興趣,釀酒人也有但是不會想出Hiura
These clubs could be in mix for Minor
July 18: The Rangers have exceeded expectations to this point of the season,
one in which many thought they would continue to make progress in their
rebuild rather than return to contention. So seeing them in the AL Wild Card
mix has been surprising – enough so that there appeared to be a chance they
might consider buying (or at least holding) with the goal of making a
postseason push.
That might be changing, however, as Texas has lost four straight and fallen 4
1/2 games behind the resurgent division-rival A's and Rays for the second
Wild Card spot. What does that mean?
Well, for one thing, Mike Minor -- the team's top pitcher with a 2.73 ERA, a
1.16 WHIP and 121 strikeouts in 122 innings -- is "increasingly likely to be
traded in the next two weeks" ahead of the July 31 Trade Deadline, MLB.com's
Jon Paul Morosi reports.
條子最近又狂敗,可能要去當賣家了
The Brewers and Phillies are among the clubs interested in the 31-year-old
lefty -- who is owed the remainder of his $9.5 million 2019 salary and
another $9.5 million next season -- but Morosi notes "there's no indication
that a deal is close." The Braves also are "open to a reunion" with the
eight-year vet, who was drafted No. 7 overall by Atlanta in 2009 and spent
the first five years of his MLB career there. Minor also could be a fit for
the Astros, MLB.com's Richard Justice speculates
釀酒人和費城人都對Minor有興趣,不過離交易達成還很遠,勇士也有可能
Given that the Rangers open a new ballpark next season, there has been some
thought that they might hang onto Minor to team with Lance Lynn atop the
rotation. That still could happen, of course, but GM Jon Daniels likely is
weighing that against the fact that Minor's trade value -- as an aging
pitcher with a history of injury -- is at its peak right now.
條子明年有新球場,可能會想要繼續維持包含Minor和Lynn的輪值
Minor, for his part, is not interested in going anywhere. "I don’t want to
go anywhere," he said Wednesday. "My name was talked about in the offseason,
so I’m used to it. It seems like ever since I signed, I’ve been a topic. It
’s like I signed here just to be traded."
Dissecting Stroman's trade value
July 18: Amid his bounceback season, Marcus Stroman has been a hot name in
the rumor mill of late. The right-hander is in his prime at 28, comes with
another year of control after 2019 and sports a 3.25 ERA and an elite 57.9
percent ground-ball rate – all of which explains the appeal.
It also indicates why the Blue Jays have a fairly high asking price for their
top starter. But will Stro be on the go?
"He’s gettable, and multiple GMs expect Stroman to be dealt before July 31,"
ESPN's Jeff Passan writes in a story running down some of the bigger
candidates who could be swapped this summer.
"Stroman is the prototype of what teams are seeking in this high-spin rate,
high-velocity era," MLB.com's Richard Justice writes in highlighting Stroman
as one of nine trade targets who could make a major impact down the stretch.
"His fastball regularly touches 95 mph, and his cutter is in the 91-92 mph
range. He has allowed three runs or fewer in 10 of his last 11 starts and is
allowing less than one home run per nine innings."
Another factor in Stroman’s value, as Passan points out, is that he’s a
candidate to be presented with the qualifying offer after the 2020 campaign
by Toronto -- or any team that acquires him this season. That would mean he
would gain his '20 team Draft-pick compensation should he sign elsewhere,
thus adding to his potential value to his '20 club. That's something the Blue
Jays could use as leverage in discussions.
Stroman的部分,交易時可能要考慮到2020年底的QO
What could the market for Smith look like?
July 18: Much like with teammate Madison Bumgarner, it's now at least
slightly less certain that the Giants -- on a 12-2 streak entering Thursday
that has propelled them into the NL Wild Card chase -- will move Will Smith.
Unlike Bumgarner, however, Smith doesn't have quite as much history with San
Francisco, meaning it might stand to reason that he's more likely to go
between now and the Trade Deadline.
Not only that, but the lefty closer's strong season (2.75 ERA, 0.89 WHIP,
12.8 K/9) and cheap 2019 salary ($4.3 million) mean just about any contender
could find a way to fit Smith into its bullpen -- and budget.
"Smith has appeared in just 94 games the last two seasons, and that should
increase his value as teams look for fresh arms for October," MLB.com's
Richard Justice writes in listing Smith as one of nine impact players who
could be swapped. "He has made good on 38 of 44 save chances, with a 2.63 ERA
in that time, and his 0.94 WHIP is the ninth lowest among all Major League
relievers. His impending free agency will lower his value a bit, but given
the demand for pitching, the bidding should be intense."
Among the clubs most desperate for relief -- including the Dodgers, Braves,
Twins, Nationals, A's, Brewers, Red Sox and Phillies -- Boston (.394 wOBA,
1.88 WHIP), Philly (.336, 1.40), Atlanta (.332, 1.68) and Washington (.327,
1.50) have struggled most when it comes to how their lefty relievers have
handled hitters.
Will Smith的部分,目前有許多缺RP的隊伍(躲人勇士雙城國民綠帽酒人紅襪費城人)
Yanks would look to 'score big' if moving top prospects
July 18: It's well established that the Yankees are not only buyers ahead of
July 31 but also seeking pitching, particularly a starter if possible. What's
not yet known, however, is which potentially available arms the Yanks prefer:
Madison Bumgarner? Trevor Bauer? Marcus Stroman? Noah Syndergaard? Robbie
Ray? Matthew Boyd?
While New York has been linked to all of those names, there's always the
possibility GM Brian Cashman could pivot and take a different approach.
