Petrie signs 3-year extension with Kings
Six months ago, uncertainty reigned in Kings land, and no one's future was
more in question than resident ruler Geoff Petrie.

But that changed Monday, as the team's basketball president, who was in the
final year of his contract, signed an extension.

According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the deal is for three
years and peaks at approximately $1.5 million in the final year.

The team is expected to announce the move today, but Kings co-owner Gavin
Maloof confirmed to The Bee a deal had been done. Petrie is earning $4.6
million this season.

"We're very excited about having him back on board and extending him for the
next few years," Maloof said while sitting courtside at Arco Arena for

Petrie's last six months have been quite the upswing, as his draft class of
Tyreke Evans, Omri Casspi and Jon Brockman has been arguably the best in the
NBA, and the hiring of coach Paul Westphal is widely seen as a success to
this point.

Petrie's son, Mike, was promoted from scout to assistant vice president of
basketball operations in what may have been one of a number of front-office
title changes.
