04/03 13:35 : → skvera:主持瘋狂誇獎部份~~講超快XDDDD 04/03 13:35 H: Well that's my all-time favorite song, taking you back to the 1970 that was, A: Jackie DeShannon H: Jackie DeShannon with 'What the World Needs Now'. And it's love, sweet love. Woo~ A: And that was a special request, birthday request, from our very special guest, Jam Hsiao. H: Well, he's got good taste, no doubt about that. A: He's got a good wish for the world that there will be love for everyone. H: well, I agree with that. And oh yeah, also, I want to mention too, I was kind of surprised when you told me that this is his first, I am talking about Jam, his FIRST English interview. A: Yes. Actually, for those of you who thought this is just an interview with some information about the Spring Wave, it's a lot more than that. It was actually Jam Hsiao's first ever English interview. H: That's pretty amazing. A: Yeah. You may say 'What's the big deal?' He sings a lot of English songs, right? He's fluent in English. That's where he could fool you. (laugh) Because he learnt a lot of these English songs by ear only. He's never seen the lyrics for a lot of these songs. And he's just started learning English. He's a beginner. H: I'll tell you what, he's pretty 勇敢 to come on an English program and to uh face us that way A: Absolutely. I have to tell you, there are 3 things that really really impressed me about Jam Hsiao coming on the show. The first one is obviously that he agreed to come on the show. Because as you know I complained about this a lot. As the producer I try to go out to try to get a interesting people to come on the show to talk and these are people who I know can function perfectly in an English-speaking country. But this is the conversation usually goes: 'Hi, would you like to come on the show to talk about this? you know, with our listeners?' And the first question is 'Do I have to speak English?' My answer: 'Yes' Their answer: H: 'No, I think I am busy that day'. A: Exactly. However, that was not the conversation I had with Jam. I said 'Would you like to come on the show to talk about Spring Wave?' He said, 'Uh, I am not sure if my English will be up to par' But he gave me a chance to talk about what I would like to ask him. And at the end he said, 'You know what, if you think you can make it work I am willing to give it a try.' H: wow A: What a trooper! What a great attitude! H: Super super attitude. A: From that response, I get the feeling, I get the sense that his initial concern was NOT so much concern about him get on the show looking bad, it was about whether he would ruin the show for us. H: Wow pretty amazing. A: So I thought that was great. And what an attitude. H: great attitude and he seems a really cool guy. A: And the 2nd thing that really impress me. H: what what what A: How many guests that have we had on that show that crack jokes and said things that actually make me speechless? H: Ah. Not too many I guess. A: Not too many. He did. H: He is a funny cat. A: He was very genuine. He wasn't trying to be funny. He didn't prepare these jokes. He just was funny. Again, as I was saying, he's beginner, and he is able to do this. Because he really understands, you know. H: I think it is more than that too. I think like you said he has a great attitude, a great great attitude. And again, as we kind of talked about this behind the scene, well, he is a pretty big star. And he has a lot to lose in terms of his face and, I guess, his reputation. But you know that didn't stop him. So, for those of you who try to learn English out there, use Jam as an example. A: He doesn't preset limitation for himself. You know. He's willing to try differnt things and to challenge himself. So, his face or how how should I say, learning and growth is put in front of saving face. So that is a great attitude. So that is very impressive. A: The 3rd thing that really impressed me... H: Hey, I am getting jealous here. A: What? I am sorry, I am in the education profession! The 3rd thing that really impresses me, even though he's a beginner, he really really gets what it means to speak the language. It is to communicate using what you know. H: That is true. A: To speak what you know. And I am saying this, I know you can relate to this because we both have taught presentation classes. What happens when you assign a student a topic to talk about? H: Oh yeah, it gets really complicated and they use really inappropriate vocabulary and they just take things over the top. A: They figure they have to use really big words and big long sentences, compound, complex sentences with multiple relative clauses. H: Yeah, when they're explaining something that should be just kind of very simple, right? A: Right. Hide behind these what they think is "GOOD English". Because it's really complicated. H: hehe A: Let me give you an example. One of the question I asked Jam, 'What is Spring Wave?' What would most studenst say? Spring Wave, an annual musical event generally taking place in southern Taiwan, often... H: zzz (snort) I am falling asleep here. what? A: For those of you who are listening, that kind of English may be good, the grammar may be good , the sentence maybe complicated, the words may be sophiscated, you know what, it doesn't work in presentation and it doesn't work in radio. H: Not really. A: However, if you recall what did Jam said when I ask him. So, Jam, what is Spring Wave? H: You know I can remember very clearly because it is so simple. He said something like, well, it is going to be this huge concert on the beach or something. A: Exactly. He said, it is like, a big concert, on the beach. H: And that is perfect. It says it all. A: Exactly. That's simple, easy to understand. Succinct. But, but here is the thing, it paints a great picture. H: A simple and clear picture. A: I couldn't done it better. H: I dig it A: And you know what that is radio news reporting style. This guy has a future. He has an instinct. He has a future in radio. H: Hopefully he won't kind of take our job. (你也想太多了吧 XD) A: Yes. We got to work hard. H: haha A: Because, you know what, he's got a name that is perfect for a morning show, Breakfast with Jam. Or if he gets a sidekick named peanut butter, Peanut Butter and Jam. H: haha A: You know what we better stop talking about him. Because in case some upper management in ICRT is listening, next week when you tune in, it wouldn't be Dim Sum Cafe. H: Hi. It's Me, Jam and Peanutbutter! A: Hey, welcome to Peanut Butter with Jam Or Breakfast with Jam. H: I think that's cool. I like that. A: We are getting silly. OK. H: We are going to take a little short pause, coming right back. Dim Sum Cafe! A: On ICRT FM 100! -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 173.63.29.198
