[情報] BP: Kuo in 2006-2007
Hong-Chih Kuo, 2006
The first Taiwanese high-schooler ever signed to a pro contract, Kuo has
been sidelined by two Tommy John surgeries thus far, and through 2004 had
been limited to 42.1 pro innings spread out over four years. Finally
healthy, he was shifted to the bullpen. He pitched brilliantly at both
Vero Beach and Jacksonville, posting eye-popping numbers that earned him a
cup of coffee in September. He can bring it as high as 99 mph--rare
velocity for a southpaw--and his repertoire includes both a breaking ball
and a changeup. With no journeyman lefties standing in his way, he`ll
compete for a spot in the big league bullpen this spring.
Hong-Chih Kuo, 2007
Sidelined by two Tommy John surgeries and limited to 42 1/3 pro innings
from 2001 to 2004, this Taiwanese native dazzled once he was healthy,
lighting up radar guns with 99 MPH heat out of the bullpen, rare for a
southpaw. He made the Dodgers out of spring training but struggled with
his control, walking 24 in 27 1/3 innings while bouncing between the City
of Angels and Sin City. In mid-July, he was converted back to starting at
Triple-A, and the results were revelatory. Despite earning just one win
after being recalled, he was arguably the team`s top starter in September
(29 1/3 IP, 3.07 ERA, 35 K, 7 BB, 1 HR) and didn`t embarrass himself in
his postseason start either. Stamina is his biggest issue; if he can
increase his, he`s clearly got the stuff to succeed in the big leagues.
