這個用法很棒，telescope 原來是名詞 "望遠鏡" 的意思。
tele- (far) + scope (look)，"可看到遠方" 的東西。
電話 telephone 的字源相似：
tele- (far) + phone (voice)，"可聽到遠方聲音" 的東西。
但 telescope 當動詞是 "因相撞而相互嵌入" 的意思：
(MW) to become forced together lengthwise with one part entering
another as the result of collision
這和 "望遠鏡" 有什麼關係呢？

望遠鏡常常是 "大筒套小筒"，高級相機、顯微鏡、火箭等也是這樣。
當一節一節的東西 (如火車、捷運) 相撞後車廂相互嵌入，
那個樣子就像望遠鏡 (不得不佩服外國人的觀察力和創意)，

但一般來說車廂都是一樣大小的，所以除非受到外力前後夾擊，
不然應該不會發生 "大筒套小筒" 的情況。
