依造句意還挺好理解的。
He is only/but one of ten students that are invited to meet the president.
他只不過是那十個被邀請會見總統的學生中的一個。
He is the only one of ten students that is invited to meet the president.
他是那十個學生中的唯一被邀請會見總統的那一個。
第一句話的only/but是副詞修飾be動詞表示僅僅、只是，等同merely。
第二句話的only被the侷限住只能做形容詞表示唯一，使重心變成the only one，
the使得後方修飾語有一個強烈的指示one這個對象（那一個），
that因此很自然的去修飾核心the one。
