這位朋友因為跟我寫到一樣的題目而有一樣的困惑 我轉貼一下yahoo!字典上的解釋 【文】集合名詞(注意:集合名詞作總稱用時使用單數動詞,指所有成員時使用複數動詞,例 :The orchestra was playing. 管絃樂團正在演奏;The orchestra have all gone home. 管絃樂團的團員都回家了) 如果不相信Y字典的解釋,我再貼比較多老外在用的字典網站dictionary.com的Q&A Should I use a singular or a plural verb with a collective noun? A collective noun refers to a whole group as a single entity but also to the members of that group. A collective noun names a group of individuals or things with a singular form. Examples of collective nouns are: faculty, herd, team. There are collective nouns for people, animals, objects, and concepts. The use of a singular or plural verb depends on the context of the sentence. If one is referring to the whole group as a single entity, then the singular verb is best: The school board has called a special session. When a group noun is used with a singular determiner (e.g., a/an, each, every, this, that), singular verbs and pronouns are normal: The team is away this weekend; they have a good chance of winning. There are other contexts where the plural verb is more natural: My family are always fighting among themselves. When the individuals in the collection or group receive the emphasis, the plural verb is acceptable. Generally, however, in American English, collective nouns take singular verbs. In British English, collective nouns are more often treated as plurals that take plural verbs. 事實上跟Y字典的解讀是一樣的,而且也解釋了前面網友的推文,確實的美國人習慣用單數 動詞,英國人習慣用多數動詞。但是正確的文法上,應該依據文義不同而變化。 因此,在PP破解中,該題確實是指組織所有成員,應用複數。然而在某些句子中使用單數 或複數會有不同意思,請詳讀以上英文解釋。 ※ 引述《chih96 (chih)》之銘言: : 以PP語法筆記test#2 Q54為例 : 54. (27326-!-item-!-188;#058&003502) : Greatly influenced by the Protestant missionary Samuel Kirkland, the Oneida was : the only one of the five-nation Iroquois League who sided with the colonists : during the American Revolution. : (A) was the only one of the five-nation Iroquois League who sided : (B) was alone of the five-nation Iroquois League when they sided : (C) alone among the five nations of the Iroquois League sided : (D) were the only ones out of the five nations of the Iroquois League in siding : (E) only of the five-nation Iroquois League had sided : A: (C) : 在A的解釋中提到 : the Oneida為集合名詞 所以was應該改為were : 這點和我本來的認知一樣 : 就是集合名詞作主詞 EX:peole(人們) : 後面應該接複數動詞吧?! : 所以AT考試中應該還是要用複數動詞吧?? : 還是我觀念錯了 應該是接單數動詞呢? : ※ 引述《andyhu2001 (大俠啦~)》之銘言: : : 集合名詞代表的是群體的概念, : : 我想問集合名詞所接用的動詞應該用單數還是複數? : : 抑或是視情況而定? -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.168.0.108
