先不考慮其他，我的想法是先用關係代名詞觀點去解釋:
(A)選項it指示不清

這邊指的是conversation所以一定不對
: C. Carconi conceived of the radio as a tool for private conversation
: that could substitue for the telephone; instead, it has become
^^^^
這邊指的是private conversation所以也不對
: D. Marconi conceived of the radio to be a tool for private conversation,
: a substitute for the telephone, which has become
^^^^^
這邊指的是telephone所以也不對
: E. Marconi conceived of the radio to be a substitute for the telephone, a
: tool for private conversation, other than what it is,
(E)選項至少排除關係代名詞指示錯誤導致題意扭曲的現象，所以是"相對較佳"的答案
只是我的猜測~
: 這題 CD 答案是 E
: 可是我以為答案是 C
: 但又很困惑
: 因為 C 後面 substitute 是動詞, 有改變詞性
: 可是 E 後面卻是 conceive... to be
: 請問這樣用法對嗎 ?
