The Mets announced in a statement that Beltran, who missed more than two months last season with a bone bruise in his right knee, "had a worsening of osteoarthritis" recently, prompting him to undergo surgery. The Mets said Beltran is expected to return to baseball activities in 12 weeks -- in mid-April -- but there was no estimate given on when he might join the Mets on the field.
