I doubt it.
Which version of FreeBSD did you run?

1. OPENSSL_OVERWRITE_BASE=yes does only work on FreeBSD 4.x

2. OPENSSL_OVERWRITE_BASE=yes must be used while configure, build and install.

If it ever worked on 5.x or 6.x your
system its not updated it will contain a mix of old and new stuff.

3. if you had set "WITH_OPENSSL_BASE=yes" your system is fine.
