If I understand correctly, the Linux and FreeBSD implementations of
ZFS come from the same codebase, whereas the implementations of the
ext[234] differ, and the FreeBSD implementation isn't complete, and it
lacks, among other things, journaling. Personally I'm not as impressed
by ZFS as many others are. I do, however, use it for data storage, but
not for / or /usr(/local), and in this case I'd consider ZFS the
better choice over any of the ext type systems.
