freebsd on a laptop : only console use

hello,

i intend to purchase a new machine.
would prefer it be a laptop.
freebsd will be the only operating system on it.
i only operate at the console.

i don't need functionality like suspend, sleep, etc.
but, would be nice to know battery state, etc.
is freebsd ready for laptops?

i intend to go for the lenovo thinkpad L440 (dos version).
