On the other hand - we are using daily `portsnap -I update` so we have updated INDEX on all our machines, but outdated ports tree. (freezed in some point in time, so we can have same versions installed on all servers in a group) I think it should be user configurable in /etc/periodic.conf if somebody want to use INDEX or not. Or the hack with /nonexistent should be mentioned in a comment in /etc/defaults/periodic.conf and in a manpage.
