Just send the committer a polite, nicely worded email and see if
they'll submit it for backporting to stable/9.

There's a bunch of fixes that I've not backported from -head to
stable/9 because I've not received anywhere near enough feedback from
people to be sure it hasn't broken things this late in the release
cycle.
