The same way that the relationship between publishing houses and writers
works. O'Reilly is not in the business of chick-lit, and Mills & Boon have
not yet publised a comprehensive guide on the internals of BIND and DNS.
Likewise, a small independent record label is unlikely to sign Britney
Spears because they wouldn't know how to market her music. EMI is unlikely
to sign a bunch of kids who play their local venues for much the same reason
- they might think the music is marketable, but they don't know how to
market that particular artist. Some companies specialise in rock, others in
classical.
It is no different with games publishers and their respective software
houses. Some publishers feel happier with some titles. This should not come
as a suprise to anyone at all.
