Just for the fun of it,

add this to the template definition:
set iface down-script mpd-down.sh

mpd-down.sh contents being:
#!/bin/sh
/bin/sleep 1

I've  seen  panics  related  to  queuing with dummynet (not dummynet's
fault :P), and this awful hack worked around the real problem.

Not sure if you're suffering from the same race condition tough :)
