我們要表達的意思為:
A) 的程度比 B) 的程度高
故合成以下句子並逐步省略:
The fairy tale is closer to reality than
one might think the fairy tale is (close to reality).
The fairy tale is closer to reality than
one might think it is.
(下一步可以省略it is，是限定於有插入語"one might think"
的時候才能省略)
The fairy tale is closer to reality than
one might think.
如果是 (B) 則應該是
... than what one might think it is is close to reality.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^主詞
注意後句實際上為 主詞 is close to reality 並無插入句
(插入句one might think是存在於 what 子句中的一部分
並非主句的一部分)
所以it is是不能省略的 應該寫成
... than what one might think it is is.
若允許將than視為介係詞 則為
... than what one might think it is.
(C) that 當關係代名詞時 前面必須有先行詞
(D) 應改成 it is thought (to be)
