[yes, some cultures allow polygamy, but always 1 husband -> n wives, so each
wife would still have only 1 husband :p]

technically yes, but contextually no, since
1) culturally we understand that 1 wife has 1 husband, so there's a 1:1
correspondance between husband and wife,
2) if a wife is 'misused' by another woman's husband
then the sentence should be "a woman is misused by a man"
because in that case using 'husband/wife' would be misleading.
[BTW 'misused' is incorrect, but it's your example :p]
A point that English learners often miss is that sometimes meaning is conveyed
by how certain words are NOT used in a sentence.
