pppd fix for possible DOS

Patch-taken-from: OpenBSD
BTW, OpenBSD's cvs log says this on a previous revision: "Pedro says we
can change his license too." The licensed was changed to a standard
3-clause BSD license. Maybe DragonFly is interested in doing that too...
