Accept for "Intel" not related to OP's question... but I thought I'd throw this out. On a newer Dell, Dimension 2700, workstation; the 20040913 iso does not see the onboard sata device. I've not been able to justify (time) to try a newer iso for this hardware, could there be a difference? Some other interesting facts: the debian woody installer has no trouble using it as ata, but new versions of knoppix, linux bbc and system rescue cd cannot use the device either. My linux 2.6.10 kernel mounts the root fs in hde3 then an extra partition from prompt, on the same device, as sda4. Both types same time, same drive, very weird. Has been stable too. Will provide config if anyone is interested. I cannot find the "comprehensive" webpage for DFLY compatibility, discussed some time back, and the wiki Supported Hardware page doesn't seem appropriate. Here's the hardware profile from linux, more details per request. 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2580 (rev 04) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2581 (rev 04) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2582 (rev 04) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2782 (rev 04) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2660 (rev 03) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2658 (rev 03) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2659 (rev 03) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 265a (rev 03) 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 265b (rev 03) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 265c (rev 03) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82820 820 (Camino 2) Chipset PCI (rev d3) 00:1e.2 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 266e (rev 03) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2640 (rev 03) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 266f (rev 03) 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2651 (rev 03) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 266a (rev 03) 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: National Semiconductor Corporation DP83815 (MacPhyter) Ethernet Controller 03:01.0 Ethernet controller: BROADCOM Corporation: Unknown device 1653 (rev 01) 03:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 1064 (rev 03) I haven't tried networking under the dfly cd, but could if anyone can see a purpose for it.. I would really like to image this hardware from a cd or pxe boot... Oh, also tried g4u, and that netbsd kernel seems to get a network interface up (don't recall if the onboard one) and sees the wd0 drive (didn't move forward with that imaging approach for unrelated issues). // George -- George Georgalis, systems architect, administrator Linux BSD IXOYE http://galis.org/george/ cell:646-331-2027 mailto:george@galis.org
