Will that same CD boot on another machine? If yes, then you might try using
an older install CD to see if that particular machine will like it any better.

I tried a 12/22/04 stable iso, and also a 10/9/04 iso. Both got the same result.
I *think* I might have installed FreeBSD in 'dangerously dedicated' mode. Could that be
it?
