The Washington Nationals right-hander, recovering from a hip strain, tossed 6.1 breezy innings before 3,673 at Metro Bank Park to lead the hosts to a 5-1 victory over New Hampshire. He was removed in the seventh after striking out Jake Marisnick on his 75th pitch. Kobernus (3-for-4) stole three bases, bumping his Eastern League-leading total to 38. Rahl's swipe was his 23rd. Hood also finished 3-for-4 and delivered Harrisburg's only hit with runners in scoring position (1-for-10 overall). C Kris Watts crushed a two-run homer in the fourth – his first with the Senators – and picked off Kevin Howard at first base to end the game. Kevin Pucetas, fresh of Harrisburg's disabled list, saw his first action since July 5 and allowed a run in 1.2 innings behind Wang. Erik Davis pitched a scoreless ninth. New Hampshire's Deck McGuire (4-11) walked five and allowed five runs on five hits in his four innings. The Fisher Cats managed just five hits on offense. Struggling RHP Rob Gilliam was placed on the Senators' disabled list, and the Nationals signed RHP Brian Broderick, a 2011 Rule 5 pick of the Nats, after he was released by the Cardinals' AAA team. Broderick was 3-8 with a 7.32 ERA at AAA Memphis. He's expected to join Harrisburg after a couple of days at the spring training facility in Florida.
