Looking back, if Wang didn’t pitch the whole nine yards on June 18 in the Nation’s Capital, Shawn Chacon wouldn’t have gotten the successful bail-out the following day, when four relievers tossed an inning apiece after he was only able to contribute five innings of work. We trusted him last Sunday with the ninth inning. He did great, but we didn’t do very well. We took him back out there tonight and he just battled his way through seven. I thought it was great. While the economical 85 pitches were imposing, Wang, who wanted to come out for the eighth inning, never allowed the leadoff batter to reach base in the five scoreless innings he tossed. The Yankees’ offense responded with a three-run fourth inning to break the tie and take a 6-3 lead which led to the eventual 6-5 victory.
