THREAD TITLE: Pardus Recruitment Drive - I've got the drugs, you've got the
guns, let's make lots of money!
Yes, I know that thread title is a reference to the Pet Shop Boys and as
awesome as the Pet Shop Boys are, this is a thread about
http://pardus.at/
which is just as awesome. We're expanding rapidly in the amount of space that
we own in the Artemis server and we need more goons to make sure we don't
crumble under the burden of owning all of this neat shit we've recently
acquired. This is where you, the goon reading this thread comes in to assist
us in our long-term goal for conquering the Pardus universe! So what is
Pardus, you're asking by now? Good question!
Pardus is a free browser MMO (with optional premium membership for access to
more goodies) where you fly around in space and perform trading and
exploration in similar vein to the Elite and X series. The coolest thing
about Pardus however is that almost every action you make is reversible
except for what race and gender you pick, but it's not like they really
matter anyway unless you don't want to play as a female crab crackwhore
anymore and would rather be a male lizard crackwhore instead, then you're
kinda screwed there and you'll have to make a new character from scratch. Why
you would want to do that however is beyond me, since we barely get involved
in the whole roleplay aspect of the game for a good reason... DRAMA DRAMA
DRAMA being the main reason, cybersex in the roleplay chat room being the
other
Where was I again? Oh yeah, I was explaining why Pardus is my preferred time
sink and I shall do it by mostly copy and pasting from the previous thread:
Screenshots
I figure getting screenshots out of the way first will get rid of half of the
people who'll look at it and go "ugh this game looks like an ugly piece of
crap". Well what were you expecting, flashy next-gen pixel shading whizbang
3D features with bloom?! It's a browser MMO damnit, and quite frankly I think
it looks good for a browser MMO. You can install your own imagepacks but I'm
not linking to those because I don't use them and I can't be fucked searching
for them:
Navigation screen, this is typically what you see when you're in a developed
sector. Note that the fuel has been stripmined to shit in this area
Some NPCs here and there, a few buildings and a planet. This also partially
shows off a cool Greasemonkey script that adds quick links to commands
Check out these stats! (they're ok)
A list of NPC kills is shown directly below in the left table but that's not
worth seeing
Ship equipment screen, showing off my ship in the older server
Automatic news entries! This is what it typically looks like during peacetime
and here's what it looks like during wartime
If you become a notorious pirate and you stay alive long enough to collect
bounties on your head, someone (typically a group ambushing at a chokepoint)
will eventually hunt you down!
Why should Goons play Pardus?
It stands out from other browser MMOs with the large amount of random events,
very strong participation from the community and a deep amount of
role-playing with a rich history. Like I said above, goons pretty much don't
care about the whole RP aspect of the game since we think most of those RPers
are dramawhores and we generally like to make fun of them at any occasion
within reasonable limits. That said, they do like to warmonger and that's
a-ok in my book because I love PvP!
Pardus is also actively developed and it's noticeable by the size of the
universe map, which is pretty damn big for a browser MMO. There's 381 sectors
to fly around in and at an average of 20x20 tiles per sector, that's pretty
damn huge if you ask me.
Pardus is skill-based, not level-based. There is some grind to access bigger
ships, but there's nothing wrong with small fighters like the bitchin' Viper
Defense Craft and the Shadow Stealth Craft! Interceptors suck though and
carry a bad stigma of being overused by newbie pirates. Nobody cares about
Marauders.
Another thing is that Pardus encourages casual playing due to the AP system,
which dictates everything from moving, trade and combat. You start off with
5000 AP and you receive 24 AP per six minutes (5760 a day) up to a maximum of
5000 (5500 with premium, up to an additional 500 with advanced skills) which
means powergaming won't get you far unless you can successfully camp the best
NPC spots. It takes roughly 15-20 minutes to use up 5000 AP on average so
it's perfect to play if you're having a break at school, work or if you're
leeching off public wifi!
It's also Goon-made, as one of the admins posts here under the guise of
Baldur. He's quite a busy man so if you need help, you can ask me (Deat Saw
in Artemis) since Baldur appointed me as an official Guide, or anyone else
who will read this thread and has decent knowledge about Pardus.
Cool things to do in Pardus
* Be a pirate! Raid buildings, steal from players, send players back to
their homeworld, get bountied. That's pretty much the circle of life for a
pirate in Pardus. If you choose this career path it's strongly recommended to
become neutral as soon as you have your ideal ship and have decent combat
skills, or you will get raped very quickly.
* On the flipside, be a bounty hunter and shoot down pirates and other
people who do evil things to deserve bounties! There's two types of bounties,
those given by a faction (for getting caught while hacking or selling illegal
commodities to the black market) and those given by a player for whatever
reason, usually piracy or drama.
* Become a hacker, find out information about the locations of a pilot
and their buildings and sell (or give) your services to other people! Be
prepared to avoid bounty hunters in the early stages of your hacking career!
* Get involved in faction wars! Wars are fun!
* Make shitloads of money with trading! Demand for drugs, droids and
robots are pretty high, and people will pay up to 16k per ton for a hit of
the good shit. With the right local economy, you can make a profit of upwards
of 400k a day, and considering an excellent fighter setup costs somewhere
within the 12 to 45 million mark...
Factions and Syndicates
There's four races you can choose in Pardus, but all they do is give you a
small bonus on certain skills (or a shitty trader ship if you choose Ska'ari)
and pretty much indicate where you start in the universe.
Factions are a completely different subject. Fortunately you don't need to be
tied down to a specific faction and you can choose to be neutral and not
affiliated with any faction, but being involved in a faction generally gives
you the most benefits and is easier for a newbie. The goon alliance caters
for all three factions so you won't get ganked if decide to pick the Union
over the Empire or the Federation. Here's a quick rundown of each faction:
Federation: Nice ships and better drives
Empire: Better missiles and more types of conventional weaponry
Union: Better shields, large assortment of special equipment like cloakers
and ECCMs (they nullify ECMs which increase the chance of dodging missiles)
Take note that by switching factions, you will lose all of the rank you have
accumulated and faction-specific equipment you own will not be repairable
unless you find a X-993 Drone.
Once you reach the tenth rank in your faction of choice, you will gain access
to the respective faction council where you can put in a vote for peace or
war. Isn't it neat to manipulate the outcome of life in Pardus?
All you really need to know about the Syndicates is:
The Shadow Syndicate is awesome if you're a neutral who either owns Drug
Stations and Slave Camps or is a pirate
The Esteemed Pilots Syndicate sucks ass and is only useful for roleplaying.
Seriously, the EPS ships are crap because you can't use faction equipment in
them and you need to grind competency for them, what the shit?!
Griefing
Griefing is pretty much an essential part to any decent MMO, and Pardus is no
exception. The most basic form of griefing is killing newbies who are too
stupid to sit on wormholes, planets or starbases. If you can't find newbies
sitting in open space, the next best thing to do is to go to a homeworld
sector and constantly set up ambushes a few tiles away from fuel collectors
and send fake distress calls that you're out of fuel. Do it enough times
(three times usually does the trick) and some trader is bound to fall victim:
There's much more sophisticated methods of griefing such as economic
sabotage, but that's not really my forte except for one time when I stole 134
tons of really expensive commodities from a weakly defended TO, earned 3.6
million from that endeavour and was one of the most successful raids done in
Artemis by a single pilot! Of course, the best way to deal with annoying
(role) players is to be even more over-the-top in dramatic bullshit than they
are. It's not that hard with enough practice!
Fortunately, my hard efforts of playing as a pirate and griefing has paid off
to the extent that I'm currently ranked fourth in the most prolific killers
list and that my alliance is currently ranked first as the alliance with the
highest average PvP kills per member. Add my massive ego to those impressive
feats, is it no wonder that I'm declared the Pirate King of Artemis?

I want to know more!
I'm trying to keep this post as short as possible so go read the manual, it's
one of the most detailed and useful manuals I've ever came across in MMOs. If
you need clarification about something in the manual, feel free to message me
in-game or ask in this thread!
You've convinced me, I want to play with Goons in Pardus! I need to reword
this but I can't be fucked now
Awesome! We have our own private forums at http://tgc.shadyballs.com/ where
you can register and one of the admins (myself, Fordham, and Xsk) will
authenticate you provided you follow the simple instructions. There are
sections for specific servers so you won't have to look through a list of
worthless Artemis or Pegasus threads just to find Orion threads. There's also
a few general sections for help, our IRC channel etc.
Joining an alliance will cost 1,000 AP if you are accepted and you're
eligible to join as soon as you leave the tutorial. If you want to chill out
with goons, you can join Serious Business in the Artemis server since they
are the main Goon alliance and are also neutral-aligned! There's a codeword
for joining SB which can be found in our forums in the OP of this thread. If
you think you have the balls to you could try joining FYAD but I have a
somewhat strict set of requirements for a good reason.
Orion and Pegasus are not really relevant since a good portion of us are
focusing on kicking ass in Artemis, but you can find more details on those
two servers in our forums.
Here is a map of the universe, the Artemis goon hangouts are circled in red:
We control the sectors that are circled on the left! The right circle is only
accessible by those with premium and we don't control the entirety of those
sectors, only certain portions.
