While they've been surpassed on the top prospect lists by Jeff Francoeur,
Carlos Duran and Gregor Blanco still could prove to be valuable additions to
the Atlanta outfield in the next few years.

Before Francoeur -- the Braves' top selection in the 2002 draft -- burst onto
the scene and became one of the top prospects in all of baseball, Duran and

As for the speedy Blanco, he spent the past few months honing his skills with
LaGuira in the Venezulean League. The 22-year-old outfielder batted just .250
(22-for-88) with three homers, and his team didn't advance to the playoffs.

a team-high 34 with Myrtle Beach in 2003.

Also playing in Myrtle Beach this past season, Duran hit .261 with three
homers and was successful in 13 of 14 stolen-base attempts. His progress was
slowed when he was forced to began this season on the disabled list with a
broken wrist.

Although he has overcome the injury, Duran registered six hits in just 21
at-bats with Caracas in the regular season. Like Blanco, he is targeted to
play at Double-A Mississippi during the 2005 season.
