While the day's developments were certainly interesting, there's a bigger story
out there in dire need of a conclusion. Minnesota has cut off talks with free
agent Corey Koskie, and Toronto is reportedly close to finalizing a deal with t
he Canada native. The 31-year-old Koskie would shore up the team's situation at
third base and in the middle of the batting order, and Ricciardi expressed opt
imism that a deal would come to fruition soon.
"We're still talking. Hopefully, we'll have something tonight or tomorrow," he
said. "[Koskie's representatives] are exploring as much as they can explore, bu
t at some point, it has to end."
The same sentiment could be applied to Toronto's other pursuit: Chicago's Matt
Clement, one of the most popular attractions on the open market. The going rate
for pitchers seems to be escalating in Anaheim, but Ricciardi said the Jays ha
ven't bowed out of the bidding just yet.
"Oh, no," he said about Clement. "We think we're still in it."
