以美國經典大辭典的解譯來看
Biological field
A taxonomic category of related organisms ranking below an order and above a
genus. A family usually consists of several genera
Chemical field
1.A group of elements with similar chemical properties.
2.A vertical column in the periodic table of elements.
中文解釋起來很簡單 就是"一家人"的意思囉
比如 上述這段是以sequence (或不同domain)的相似性來做分群
就以p53 family來看 目前發現的有p63, p73 等等
科學家把它們看做一家人 因為它們在C-terminal有conserved domain (可能同樣祖宗)
再者在細胞中所具有的regulatory function也很類似
雖然表現位置或其他細部功能會有所出入
但以此大方向它們還是可被歸類於同一群集中
在這段文字中的family
定義即是 A group of peptides or proteins with similar conserved regions,
structure and functions.
