It sure sounds like he's headed for the New York Knicks, who are desperate to put together a team that can contend immediately. ～Orlando Sentinel http://tinyurl.com/6m8bl Obviously, the trade rumor involving sending Abdur-Rahim to New York is far-fetched. However, I believe it creates an opportunity for Nash and Co. to dispose of some salary headaches, e.g. Ruben Patterson. I believe the Blazers might be willing to downgrade on Shareef's presumed value if they could pawn off Patterson's contract on someone else. An Abdur-Rahim/Patterson ($20.5 mill next year) for Hardaway/Jerome Williams ($20.2 million next year) could definitely work. Williams is a fan- favorite and Penny would add depth to the much-needed depth at the shooting guard position. For NY, they get a solid energy SF off the bench and he goes to a market that seems much less concerned with players' off-court reputations. They also get a perenial PF in Shareef. In addition, Penny is off the books in 2006, so it isn't a major committment to an injury-prone player. I'd take Kurt Thomas in place of Williams but that seems highly unlikely from Isaiah's perspective. Paul T. TT is a very good three point shooter who can play 2 and 3. He is comfortable being a 6th man. Package him with N Mohammed and J Brewer (a throw in for salary match who can be waived), for R Patterson and SAR, and the Blazers have the outside shooting 6th man they so dearly need and a real back up at 5 and 4. And they dump RP (NY is one of the few cities which would probably tolerate his past).
