講者介紹：
Orin Starn是美國杜克(Duke)大學 Sally Dalton Robinson 教授。Starn重要著作包括
Ishi"s Brain: In Search of America"s Last Wild Indian和 Nightwatch: The
Politics of Protest in the Andes兩本書。而且也合編了 Indigenous Experience
Today, The Peru Reader: History, Culture, Politics 和Between Resistance and
Revolution: Cultural Politics and Social Protest等幾本重要的人類學有關社會運
動、原住民文化政治與拉丁美洲研究著作。
Starn的著作在文化理論、民族主義與全球化、社會運動、少數民族與原住民族文化與
政治有卓越貢獻。最新力作Ishi’s Brain描述探討當代美國印地安人發現與回復極具
象徵性的祖先遺骸的一段歷程，文字優美，深度詮釋了少數民族文化認同中的美麗與哀
愁、決心與矛盾。
Orin Starn近年曾接受美國重要學術基金會Wenner-Gren Foundation委託辦理少數與原
住民族文化與政治國際研討會 (2004)，也獲得重要人文研究中心National
Humanities Center(2001-2)一年研究獎助的殊榮，可說是非常活躍與具有影響力的研
究人才。
Starn致力於公共事務的發言與參與，他接受美國公共電台 (NPR)的訪問，也替Los
Angeles Times 和Chronicle of Higher Education撰寫評論文章。Starn也教導Latin
America和Native American culture and politics，貢獻於美國大學校園裡批判多元
文化教育的實施，他獲得2004年杜克大學Robert B. Cox傑出教學獎。
