: When Albert Pujols is hitting .176 with just one homer and two runs batted in
: for the first nine games, red flags go up all over.
: And not just because he is Albert Pujols. Generally, the Cardinals’ first
: baseman is one of the fastest-starting players in the game.

: For his previous six years, Pujols has hit .331 in April with 45 home runs,
: an average of better than seven a year for the month which traditionally has

: Pujols was the best player ever in April, at least as far as power was
: concerned. He set a major-league record for that month with 14 homers and he
: batted .346 while driving in 32 runs.

: Some theories:

: hit for much average or power, although he hit the ball harder than the .234
: average and no home runs he had with 10 days to go in the spring. So, what we
: ’ve seen is a continuation of that.
