Furthermore, I developed a deep interest in tragedy ever since I read the
Greek classic, Oedipus the King, when I took the western literature class.
Afterwards, I enjoy myself reading tragedies. I can’t describe my feeling
while reading tragedy and I think only what Aristotle called “catharsis”
can best summarize it. Therefore, when I read Jean Rhys’ Wide Sargasso Sea
in the course on novel and fiction, it was not surprising that I was touched
by the fate of the Creole tragic character, Antoinette. I hope I can have the
chance to be instructed about how to appreciate and analyze tragedies.
