同時執行多重任務，真的比較有效率嗎？
有人認為同一時間專心做一件事較有效率，另外有些人則認為同一時間做多件事情才比較
有效率。我們來看專家怎麼看這個問題。
美國時代雜誌 (Time Magazine) 在 2006年 3月 19日刊登了一篇『M 世代』(The
Multitasking Generation)的文章。
M 世代，其中的 M 指的是 Multitasking，也就是同時執行多重任務。這個世代的青少年
，可以同時使用 IM (即時通訊，如 MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AOL 等)、
Facebook (美國現在流行的網路虛擬社群)、MySpace (美國現在流行的網路交流互動網)
、iPod 與 手機等。
這個現象在大人的眼中實在難以想像，因為他們無法同時處理這麼多事情。因此，父母總
是會要求自己的小孩不要邊讀書邊聽音樂，不要邊寫作業邊看電視，因為他們認為這樣一
定效率不佳，什麼都做不好。
但是美國時代雜誌的結論，足以令所有父母大吃一驚。現代的青少年，同時處理多重任務
的能力，遠超過我們的想像。心理學家證實，青少年的多工處理較小孩子與成年人來得容
易，但是即使如此，同一時間處理一件事的效率還是比較好的。
密西根大學的 David E. Meyer 教授，屬「大腦認知與行為實驗室」，證實無論人們同時
做很多事或是快速的來回做不同的事情，出錯的可能性較大，而且完成的時間比一件一件
做來的長，通常會多出二倍，甚至更多。即使處理多工能力較行的青少年也是如此。這是
因為人們一定無法同時想著一件事，又同時閱讀一本書。
這段原來截錄如下，
When people try to perform two or more related tasks either at the same
time or alternating rapidly between them, errors go way up, and it takes far
longer–often double the time or more–to get the jobs done than if they were
done sequentially, says David E. Meyer, director of the Brain, Cognition and
Action Laboratory at the University of Michigan: “The toll in terms of
slowdown is extremely large–amazingly so.” Meyer frequently tests Gen M
students in his lab, and he sees no exception for them, despite their “
mystique” as master multitaskers. “The bottom line is that you can't
simultaneously be thinking about your tax return and reading an essay, just
as you can't talk to yourself about two things at once,” he says.
最近，美國紐約時代雜誌 (The New York Times) 在 2007年 3月 25日刊登『Slow
Down, Brave Multitasker, and Don’t Read This in Traffic』一文，更加強了上述的
觀點。
兩篇稍微不同之處，在於美國紐約時代雜誌這篇認為，青少年對於多工處理能力並沒有比
小孩或成年人來得容易，他們處理干擾的情形並沒有比較好。
所以，根據專家的建議，還是同時專心處理一件事情就好。
