M.S./Ph.D. Position in Atmospheric Chemistry (Air Pollution)
at EAS/NSM,University of Houston
Job Summary:
Fully-funded M.S. or PhD student position in atmospheric chemistry starting
in January 2017 at the department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS),
College of National Sciences and Mathematics (NSM),the University of Houston.
Main research field is to study the anthropogenic and natural causes of
urban (e.g. Houston) and regional air pollution through computer modeling
and data analyses of atmospheric observations.
Requirement:
At least two years of college math; some computer skills; prior programming
experiences are plus but not required.

Background:
Atmospheric chemistry is an interdisciplinary science that studies the
chemical composition (e.g. ozone, particulate matters) of the atmosphere.
Atmospheric chemistry research has guided policies to reduce poor air
quality in urban areas (“smog”) and supported policy decisions that
have greatly improved human health and welfare.
Graduate students in this field come from a diversity of backgrounds
from applied math to chemistry and everything in between.
Most incoming students have little or no scientific programming experience.
This is best learned on the job, like laboratory skills.
