PhD position in Auditory Scene Analysis
Applications are invited for a doctoral student to work on an European level
funded project that will investigate auditory attention using methods such as
EEG and psychophysics. The person will develop and implement algorithms for
auditory scene analysis on embedded platforms for experiments involving the
hearing disabled. They should have an interest in neuroscience. The work will
be carried out in the group of Dr. Shih-Chii Liu at the Institute of
Neuroinformatics, University of Zurich and ETH Zurich. Candidates will have a
chance to interact with other European partners in the project.
Requirements
The candidate should have a strong background in electrical
engineering/computer science/neuroscience. Experience with at least two of
the following: programming in Matlab/JAVA, programming on smart platforms,
embedded platforms, worked with DSPs, knowledge of signal processing and
neural networks, comfortable with hardware. Salary is according to the
guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation. Doctoral applicants
should hold a Master's degree in an engineering /computer science-related
subjects. Interested applicants should send statement of interest, CV,

Additional Information:
The supervisor Dr. Shih-Chii Liu does not speak mandarin or read Chinese.
You don't need TOEFL or GRE, but you should be able to communicate with
the supervisor.
The working language is English. You should still be able to survive in the
city without knowledge of German.
The salary is definitely sufficient for all expenses if you are single and
don't live too luxury. Currently, the salary for first year is 47,040 CHF.
The funding project is COCOHA (http://cocoha.org ).
Your program could be either under ETH Zurich or University of Zurich.
