Doctoral Student (PhD) position in
Plasmon-enhanced monitoring of molecule chirality
[Project description]
The core goal of this PhD project is to exploit the ability of metallic
nanostructures to dramatically increase the sensitivity of CD measurements
to reach the single to few molecules level. Subsequently, the developed
platform will be applied to cancer detection. The research will include
design and fabrication of optimum plasmonic nanostructures, advanced
microfluidics and optical methods and surface chemistry. The student will
be working in a multidisciplinary environment, in close interaction with
both industrial and clinical partners.
[Eligibility]
Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized master's degree
(or evidence of its completion in the nearest future);
eligible fields include Physics, Chemistry, Nanotechnology or Biotechnology.
The candidate should have a proven track record of excellence in academics
and research.
No restrictions of citizenship apply to the ICFO fellowships.
[Conditions of fellowships]
The fellowship is offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of
up to four years. The annual renewal of the ICFO-UPC fellowship is conditional
on satisfactory performance in research and teaching activities, as well as on
positive evaluation by the thesis director and the ICFO Board.
