The University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu Campus, invites applications for a
PhD Student Position for the period from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2014
The person appointed will be placed at the Department of Biology, in the
research project Impacts of terrestrial organic matter loading on
availability and transfer of polyunsaturated fatty acids in pelagic food webs
of large boreal lakes, financed by the Academy of Finland. The studies can
partly be carried out at the laboratories of the foreign project
collaborators in Austria (Interuniversity Centre for Aquatic Ecosystem
Research, WasserCluster Lunz) and/or in the USA (Civil and Environmental
Engineering, University of Washington, Seattle). The PhD student has the
possibility to join the Doctoral Program in Integrated Catchment and Water
Resources Management (VALUE).
A successful candidate should have an MSc degree (or equivalent) e.g. in
biology, hydrobiology, limnology, biochemistry or environmental sciences. The
candidate is expected to show motivation for research. Fluency in written and
spoken English and good cooperation skills are necessary. Research experience
in lipid analyses will be considered a strong asset. The salary of the
position is placed on levels 1–4 (€1680.56 – 2292.34 / month) of the job
demands level chart for research and teaching staff in the salary system for
Finnish universities and the job demands component will be supplemented by a
personal performance component.
