[Xmas] Halfway
Halfway
Travel with a calendar date—
Confusion with its intent—
Not so insidious a question,
My relationship with the day,
But somehow tongue-tied I had stayed
While others sang and praised
For a birth that gave them bread.
When years later I met my love,
It’s been a fad sometimes to celebrate.
I was driven by passion eloquent,
Befriended Christmas, and liberated
The virginity of my unspoken gratitude
For being loved, alive and well.
Eventually I meet others halfway,
In my travel with a calendar date,
For over two decades, whatever its name.
Every year telepathically,
In spite of our beliefs,
I furnish the house with occasions
Pertinent for embraces.
We’d meet halfway,
Others well familiarized,
Me with a red heart placed on top of a green tree,
Eager, impatient to speak.
