"Why are they gone, why are they gone,
Those little ones brown, black, and white
That did rest in peace and delight
In autumnal wind's tender blow?"
"Damned they are for their harsh cries
That this Academia disgrace,
So gone they are for their shabby hues
That mar the Eastern Harvard's face."
(O the nonhuman Color and Sound
Cannot harbor human malice,
And harms come only from the harmed;
So as joy for joy, peace for peace.)
"How will they be, how will they be?"
So asked the child in shaking fright.
"Fear not, for asleep they shall be
In Cradles called Peace and Delight."
