Rest assured, never shall I ask from thee,
Never, my beloved, the void merit
Of eternal fidelity, and see:
I myself adhere not to such credit.
Defer thy scold, prithee, and cast an eye
On Human Heart, that is bound in the gyre
Of self-deceit---endless layers of lie,
So waste not upon it thy lovely ire.
Detesting what once loftily above;
Adulating what once trodden below,
We defect from love to hate, hate to love,
And feign to praise the keeping of a vow.
Thus, do follow thy everchanging will,
For none in vicissitude shall stand still.
