-Ways of Teaching:
IELTS speaking:
In each session the tutee will go through the three parts of the speaking
test (part one can be omitted on request). Upon finishing each part, the
tutee will be given comments, corrections of his/her use of the language, and
usages of the language. Strategies and guidelines on organising your answers
will be taught as well. At the end of each session, the tutee will receive a
potential band score in speaking.
General conversation:
It’s open to discussion in accordance with tutees’ needs, but most of the
teaching materials would be sourced from the CNN, BBC and ABC
(Australian Broadcasting Corporation),
or sometimes SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation).
Each tutee will be asked to preview the content of a new lecture/practice
session.
The tutor will, depending on the tutee’s level, ask the tutee to either
summarise or paraphrase the content. Also, the tutor will encourage each tutee
to speak as much as possible, even helping them construct their talk.
Survival language:
The tutee will be taught the language that is needed for survival in an
English-speaking country and given many opportunities to practise with the
tutor.
During each session (whichever service is chosen), the tutor will speak only
up to 30% of the time, most of which will be used to give comments and guide
the tutee to speak more, so that the progress of each tutee’s speaking
skills can be maximised in each session.
The tutor’s passion for teaching and patience will let any tutee learn
at ease. :D
