So when my mother had heard my prayers and kissed me good-night,

早年刻苦力學，在柏林獲哲學博士學位。精通數國語文，學問淵博。
西元一九一三年前往非洲，在蠻荒叢林中行醫達五十餘年。
曾獲一九五三年諾貝爾和平獎。著有耶穌生平的研究、文明的哲學、原始森
林的邊緣等書。
