ESL is incredibly excited to announce The Gears of War Pro League by ESL
Presented by Xbox. This league will be the premier place for the best Gears
of War teams in North America to compete at the highest level of play.
Starting in September, ESL will be running 8 preseason cups to allow players
to refine their skills, prepare for the Pro League and compete for a $500
weekly prize pool. While players are competing, ESL will be working with The
Coalition and the community to continue refining the ruleset and finalize the
map pool with the goal of creating the best competitive experience for you,
the players.
Then in October, teams from all over North America will do battle in open
qualifiers to earn one of eight spots in Season One of the Gears Of War Pro
League by ESL. Over the course of seven weeks, these teams will compete to
reach the Grand Finals in January 2016 and earn their part of the $50,000
prize pool. Please use the ESL Gears of War Forum threads to let us know what
you think about the format and games settings.
1. Preseason - Format and Ruleset
The format will be a single elimination Best Of 5 in Execution and either
KOTH or Blitz. ESL will be monitoring its progress and finalizing the format
and ruleset over the course of the preseason.

Map Pool - ESL will be testing the following maps in order to identify their
viability for competitive play and weed out those that will not be included:
War Machine, Clock Tower, Fuel Depot, Canals, Mansion, Tyro Station, Old
Bones, Raven Down, Garden, Process, Rooftops, Gridlock, Courtyard.
Rounds to Win: 5
Round Duration: 4 minutes
Bleed-Out Duration: 30 seconds
Active Reload: On
Self-Revive: On
Friendly Fire: On
Map Selection: Pre-determined for open cups and pick/ban system for Pro League
Weapon Respawn: After Pickup
Weapons Substitutions: Yes

Blitz - Similar to King of the Hill with instant capture, a fixed ring order
that requires players to stand in the ring to hold it.
Map Pool - ESL will be testing the following maps in order to identify their
viability for competitive play and weed out those that will not be included:
War Machine, Clock Tower, Fuel Depot, Canals, Mansion, Tyro Station, Old
Bones, Raven Down, Garden, Process, Rooftops, Gridlock, and Courtyard.

Bleed-Out Duration: 15 seconds

After the preseason, there will be two open qualifier cups, each with a $500
prize pool, that lead to a broadcasted Pro League Qualifier on Twitch.tv. The
top 8 teams from the broadcasted pro league qualifier will earn a spot into
Season 1 of the ESL Gears of War Pro League.
2. Gears of War Pro League By ESL - Format and Ruleset
The game settings for the Pro League will mirror that of the Pre Season and
Pro League Qualifiers once they are finalized.
The Gears of War Pro League by ESL will feature eight teams in a round robin
format over seven weeks with a $50,000 prize pool.
Roster Rules: 5 players per team: 4 starting players and 1 sub / coach. There
will be limits on roster changes within the Pro League season, details to
follow.
The teams will compete weekly to earn points towards qualifying for the grand
finals where the top 4 teams compete for a chance to become the first ever
Gears of War Pro League Champions.
Grand Finals Format: Single-elimination BO5, the 1st place match will be BO7,
with third place match.
