[心得] 兩天前打Crawley Town
Skipper Samuel Ricketts says Wolves will learn the lessons from last night’s
fifth defeat of the season at Crawley – and said no one ever felt the push
for promotion would be straightforward.
After nine straight wins and then a draw against Shrewsbury, Wolves suffered
their first defeat in two-and-a-half months at the hands of Crawley as James
Henry’s goal was quickly overturned by Billy Clarke and Matt Tubbs.
The skipper echoed the views of Head Coach Kenny Jackett about Wolves failing
to adapt to the tricky conditions, not to mention making some
uncharacteristic defensive mistakes.
He said: “It was very frustrating; you go into every game wanting to win
and we got the lead in what was a scrappy game and then uncharacteristically
gave away two sloppy goals.
“We haven’t done that all season but that’s football.
“They possibly adapted to the conditions better than us but I’ve played on
a lot worse pitches, such as Telford’s about 10 years ago.
“It was one of those things.
“We did the hard thing by getting in front but in the past when we’ve gone
ahead, we’ve generally held on or dug in or we’ve pulled away from sides
but last night was probably the first time this season where we didn’t do
that.
“It was always going to be scrappy because of the conditions but unlike us
as a team and as a back four, we let them back into the game and allowed them
to get in front and we were playing catch-up.
“We gave them something to hold on to and to be fair to them, they defended
really well.
“They played the way they wanted to play really well and did it effectively
– they executed their gameplan as well as they could have done.
“You learn from it, take it on the chin and carry on.”
Wolves will return to training tomorrow to prepare for another tough test on
Saturday against a Sheffield United side unbeaten in 11 games and having
reached the semi finals of the FA Cup.
Ricketts says the squad will need to recover from the disappointment of last
night’s result, but that sitting on top of the table, and with a three-point
gap and game in hand to third placed Leyton Orient, their fate remains in
their own hands.
“Of course it’s important to put it into perspective – that was only the
fifth game this season we’ve lost, but we’re not unbeatable,” he added.
“No one said it was going to be easy to get promoted and we’re all bitterly
disappointed.
“But if you look at the table, we’re still top, which shows what a run we’
ve been on and the quality in the side that we can lose a game and still be
top and to still have a game in hand on Leyton Orient in third.

對CRAWLEY的
Table-topping Wolves suffered their first defeat in 11 games as Matt Tubbs
scored the winner to give Crawley a 2-1 victory on Tuesday.
This was the third time this season that Crawley have beaten a
top-of-the-table team following wins over Peterborough and Leyton Orient.
Wolves, who went into the game boasting 19 clean sheets, came under early
pressure and defender Danny Batth was forced to block a goal-bound shot from
skipper Josh Simpson.
Tubbs threatened with a dipping 25-yard effort which goalkeeper Carl Ikeme
smartly turned over the crossbar.
Wolves went ahead after 25 minutes when James Henry struck with a deflected
shot from 25 yards out which flew into the roof of the net off the
outstretched leg of keeper Paul Jones.
But Crawley replied within a minute through Billy Clarke, who drove a sot
past past Ikeme after being set up by Andy Drury.
The hosts went in front in the 32nd minute when Clarke found Tubbs in space
15 yards from goal and the striker gave Ikeme no chance with a clever chip
for his seventh goal in eight games.
Henry shot wastefully over the bar six minutes before the break after
substitute Leon Clarke was denied by Jones.
Jones did well again just after the interval to parry a goal-bound shot from
Clarke, and later produced a similar save to thwart Bakary Sako.
Wolves struggled to find a way back into the game and Simpson came close to
adding a third for Crawley late on.
