The album will feature the worldwide hit “Happy,” which Pharrell will perform this evening at the annual BRIT Awards in London. "When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind,” says Pharrell in a statement. “One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called 'G I R L'. I hope you like it." Pharrell has carved out a reputation as a high-calibre collaborator. The producer and artist put his stamp on some of last year’s top hits, working with Robin Thicke and T.I. on "Blurred Lines," and with Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers on “Get Lucky.” Incredibly, “G I R L” will be his first solo set since 2006's “In My Mind,” released through Interscope. The new album can be pre-ordered from here and the album trailer can be seen below. Pharrell is expected to perform “Happy” at the 86th Annual Academy Awards, and at Germany’s Wetten Das and France’s Le Grand Journal later this month. On Sunday, he opened the NBA All-Star Game with an all-star line-up of his own, to play a medley of his hits. "Happy," which featured on the “Despicable Me” soundtrack, is the highest-charting Oscar-nominated song since Eminem's "Lose Yourself" more than a decade ago. The track is currently No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
