Roddick primed for Athens
World number one Andy Roddick will play at the Olympic Games this summer.
The American, who is eligible because he competes in the Davis Cup, will
go to Athens despite the tournament's proximity to the US Open in New York.
The Olympic event takes place on 15-22 August, just eight days before the
Flushing Meadows Grand Slam.
But Roddick's coach Brad Gilbert rejected fears that they would stay away
from Greece, saying: "Athens 2004 - we're definitely going."
Gilbert continued: "I was with Andre Agassi when he won gold in 1996 in
Atlanta, and I played on the team in Seoul in 1988.
"It was a great experience."
Roddick's availability comes as a big boost after two former world
number ones said they would skip the Olympics.
Two-times Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt declared the Athens
competition too close to the US Open on Wednesday.
And his Belgian girlfriend Kim Clijsters pulled out because she will
not be allowed to wear apparel from her own sponsor.
