1.In the temperature range 310K to 330K, the pressure p of a certain
non-ideal gas is reated to volume V and temperature T by p = (24.9
J/K)T/V - (0.00662 J/K^2)T^2/V. How much work is done by the gas if
its temperature us raised from 310K to 325K while the pressure is
held constant?
2.Find the entropy change for a system of n moles of ideal gas in a free
expansion process to double its volume.
3.how much work is required to turn an electric dipole 180 degree in a
uniform electric field of magnitude E = 50.0 N/C if the electric dipole
moment p = 3.02 * 10^(-25) C.m and the initial angle is 60 degree.
4.A non-conducting solid sphere has a uniform volume density ρ. A
small spherical cavity is hollowed out of the sphere with the position
vector a, from the center of the sphere to the center of the cavity.
Show that the electric field is a constant vecter for all points within the
cavity and find out its magnitude.
5.Two isolated concentric conduction spherical shells have radii R1 and
R2, uniform charges Q1 and Q2, and tnegligible thickness. Find the
magnitude of electric field E(r) and the electric potential V(r), where V
= 0 at infinity.
6.Find the electric energy stored in a cylindrical capacitor of length L
and radii a and b with charge Q. Show that the energy density is 0.5
ε0*E^2.
7.A switch, a resistor of resistance R and a capacitor with capacitance C
are connected in series with an ideal battery of emf V. At time t = 0. the
switch is connected. Find the current i(t) in this circuit.
8.Draw a simple schematic graph and describe the operation principle of
a cyclotron. You need to derive the key formula to demonstrate its working principle.
9.Write down the Biot - Savart law and use that to find out the magnetic
field at a perpendicular distance r from a long straight wire carrying a
currrent I.
10.The current density J inside a long, solid, cylindrical wire of radius a,
is in the direction of the central axis, and its magnitude varies linearly
with radial distance r from the axis according ti J = J0*r/a. Find the
magnitude of the magnetic field at (a) r = 0 and (b) r = a/2.
